About this template

The Lilo & Stitch ʻOhana Adventure retrospective uses the spirit of ʻohana (family) to help teams reflect on their recent sprint, celebrate unity, identify chaotic moments, and collaborate on building stronger connections and smoother teamwork.

When to use this template

Use this retrospective when you want to boost team cohesion, address recent confusion or miscommunication, or inject positive energy during times of change or after particularly turbulent sprints.

How to facilitate
1

Set the scene by introducing the ʻohana (family) theme and encouraging everyone to think about team moments, both warm and wild, using the Lilo & Stitch lens

2

Ask each team member to reflect and add notes to the three columns: ʻOhana Moments (unity and support), Stitch’s Mishaps (confusion and chaos), and Better Surfing Ahead (improvements)

3

Allow time for everyone to read and react to each other's notes, using comments or reactions to surface shared experiences and priorities

4

Facilitate a group discussion, starting with celebrating ʻOhana Moments, then unpacking Stitch’s Mishaps, and wrapping up with collaborative brainstorming in the Better Surfing Ahead column

5

Guide the team to select one or two actionable improvements they can commit to for the next sprint, ensuring everyone’s voice is heard in deciding what to carry forward

6

Close the session by acknowledging the team’s shared wins and affirming your collective commitment to building a stronger ʻohana spirit

Pro Tips

Encourage storytelling by asking team members to share brief anecdotes for each column—this deepens connections and levity

If conversation stalls, bring in a relevant Lilo & Stitch quote or image to reignite the creative, light-hearted energy

End the session by linking agreed action items to team values, reinforcing ʻohana beyond the meeting

When reviewing tough moments, emphasize learning over blame to keep the conversation collaborative and supportive

FAQ
What if our team doesn’t know Lilo & Stitch?

The themes are universal; briefly explain ʻohana as family and chaos as ‘Stitch moments’ to set the context. The template works even with minimal knowledge of the story.

How can we keep the conversation positive when discussing chaos or mishaps?

Frame mishaps as learning opportunities and encourage team members to focus on what can be improved, not who is to blame. Celebrate progress as much as solutions.

What if the same issues come up every retro?

Acknowledge recurring challenges and ask the team to brainstorm new or creative ‘surfing’ solutions. Consider smaller, incremental changes for tough, persistent topics.
