This Frozen Wonderland retrospective uses a playful theme to inspire teams to embrace new ideas, let go of ineffective habits, and celebrate what truly works.
When to use this template
Perfect when your team needs to break free from old patterns, foster creativity, and rejuvenate your processes—especially after a challenging sprint or project cycle.
How to facilitate
Kick off by setting the stage with a brief introduction to the Frozen theme to build a fun, safe atmosphere
Review the three columns and explain their meaning, using the story references to make each one relatable
Invite everyone to silently add notes to each column based on their experiences: new ideas, things to stop, and things to keep doing
After all notes are added, group similar items together collaboratively and clarify any ambiguous points as a team
Discuss each column, exploring what energizes the team, what’s holding them back, and what gives them joy and momentum
Prioritize two to three actionable improvements from each column and assign owners
End on a high note, inviting each person to share a positive takeaway or an 'Olaf moment' from the session
Pro Tips
Use themed icebreakers or background music from Frozen to help everyone relax and engage
Encourage visual metaphors in the notes, like snowflakes for unique ideas or snowballs for issues building up
Rotate facilitators to keep the session fresh and ensure everyone has a chance to lead
If conversation stalls, prompt with story parallels (e.g., 'What would Elsa let go of?')
FAQ
What if my team isn't familiar with the Frozen theme?
Briefly introduce the main characters and explain the metaphor, but focus on the column meanings—anyone can join in regardless of their knowledge of the movie.
How do I keep the session focused and not too playful?
Set clear timeboxes for each activity and gently nudge discussions back on track if they drift. Use the theme to enhance, not distract from, meaningful reflection.
What should we do if negative feedback dominates the 'Freeze and Leave Behind' column?
Thank team members for their honesty and balance the session by encouraging moves to the next column. Emphasize learning and solutions over blame.
