About this template

Aladdin’s Agile Adventure retrospective uses a magical theme to help teams reflect on what to start, stop, and continue for continuous improvement.

When to use this template

This format works well at the end of any sprint or project phase, especially when you want to add some energy and creativity to team reflection.

How to facilitate
1

Welcome the team and explain the Aladdin theme to set a playful mood

2

Briefly review the three columns: Rub the Lamp (Start), Magic Carpet Turbulence (Stop), and Shining Gems (Continue), clarifying what goes in each

3

Invite everyone to silently add their thoughts to each column for several minutes, using sticky notes or a virtual board

4

Facilitate a round where team members share and discuss the notes added to each column, encouraging stories and examples

5

Group similar ideas together and discuss top priorities as a team

6

Decide on specific actions to carry forward, capturing owners and deadlines if possible

7

Close with a quick reflection: what felt magical or surprising about the session

Pro Tips

Lean into the Aladdin theme by briefly playing a theme song or using themed backgrounds to engage the team

Encourage quieter team members with gentle prompts so all voices are heard

Have each person share one wish for the team at the end to wrap up on a positive note

FAQ
What if the team finds the theme distracting?

Set the tone from the start—explain that the theme is meant to spark creativity but reassure them the focus is genuine team improvement.

How do I avoid repeating the same action items?

Encourage the team to be specific when writing notes and spend extra time discussing what would make new actions truly magical and effective.

What if discussion stalls in one column?

Prompt the team with targeted questions or share examples to get ideas flowing, especially in less-populated columns.
